Klang Municipal Council To Attract More Visitors To Taman
Pengkalan Batu
KLANG, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- The Klang Municipal Council
(MPK) is undertaking various efforts to attract more visitors to
Klang's latest recreational attraction, Taman Pengkalan Batu, at
Persiaran Raja Muda Musa here.

Its president, Abd Bakir Mohd Zain, said the council would
encourage the holding of aerobic classes on a weekly basis at
the park from next month.

The council had contacted several residents and cultural
associations to use the facilities at the park for tai-chi
classes or group exercises, he told Bernama here.

Other efforts being undertaken by the council include improving
the public toilet facilities, having more signboards and benches
for visitors to the park, which usually attracted more people
during weekends, he said.

Abd Bakir said the council was in the midst of identifying a
restaurateur to open a restaurant or cafe at the park, whose
designs were based on Malay architecture.

Its attractions include a lotus pond, jetty, flower gardens
and gazebos.

The area around Taman Pengkalan Batu was once used as a port for
the transportation of tin ore and other goods more than 100
years ago.

One of the old historical features in the vicinity is Gedung
Raja Abdullah, located near the Klang District Police
Headquarters.

Built in 1857, it was first used to store weapons, food
supplies and tin ore. It has been turned into a tin museum,
tracing the history of Selangor's glory days in tin mining.
